I recently listened to an audio file by Marie Forleo who is a Multi-Passionate Entrepreneur and hosts a show about building a business and positive mindsets. She is a great motivator and speaker with a broad range of artistic and creative experiences behind her. The file spoke about the three strategies required to reach your ultimate goal or dream. It was truly inspiring, so here is the summarised version below:
Strategy 1: Ask yourself – What do you want?
Make that decision because ‘clarity’ = ‘power.’ You must fully commit to whatever you desire as opposed to having a flimsy or weak-type of a wish. For example, I’d love to travel more.
A clear decision is a powerful thing, and this leads to a clear commitment.
You need to be brave about your desires, but we want assurances. There are no guarantees that it will work out and you open yourself up to vulnerability.
A Decision = Commitment, and the moment you commit, the universe will provide you with opportunities.
Be specific about your decision and give it a timeline.
Consider your purpose or why you’d like to reach this goal, as purpose fuels persistence. You can then tolerate the challenges.
You are more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down.
ACTION: Write down what you want and WHY you want it. How will your dream impact your life? Write it down now!
Strategy 2: Eliminate Excuses
Excuses hold you back, but it’s part of human nature.
Once we shine a light on those reasons, they lose their power. You need to admit those excuses and acknowledge them.
Excuses are about ‘Can’t versus ‘Won’t.’ According to Marie Forleo, ‘can’t is a euphemism for ‘won’t.’ The word makes you behave like a victim, and you feel powerless, and have no responsibility. ‘Won’t’ means you don’t wish to put in the effort. However, when you use the word ‘won’t,’ you take full responsibility and reclaim your power.
Marie further states that life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react. We can make things happen when we have the right motivation. You have to want that dream bad enough. If it’s important enough to you, you’ll make that time. If not, you’ll make excuses. You are in charge of your schedule. Therefore, replace ‘I can’t’ with ‘I won’t’ or ‘I don’t want to.’ Expand your self-awareness to be more honest with yourself and your needs.
ACTION: Now think about the top ten excuses or stories you’ve told yourself. Then refute that statement or solve the problem. For example, “I don’t have time” can be translated into “I can make the time.” “I don’t want to fail” = “ I always take risks and have succeeded in the past.”
Strategy 3: Action is Magic
Build momentum and take consistent, focused action – one small step.
Maria’s Forleo’s mother states ‘Everything is figureoutable’ – helps you find solutions.
Idea = Action, or one foot in front of the other.
Clarity comes from engagement – you will unlock the next steps and gather the information you need.
You’ll discover strengths you never knew you had.
Get out of your comfort zone.
Flex your ‘faith’ muscle. You need to be brave with no assurances that things will go as you planned. Tap into your strengths and power that is within you. There’s a greater intelligence at work – an unseen force within you.
ACTION: The Magic 20 – Brainstorm things you could do or are willing to do. Try for at least 20 things you could do. Say ‘next’ when you hear excuses.
In conclusion, Marie Forleo is an inspiring business woman with a wealth of experience behind her. She is an inspiring coach, thought leader, and entrepreneur who can motivate others towards a growth mindset. Check out her website at – https://www.marieforleo.com/
